Walker Howard is headed back to Oxford.

The former Louisiana quarterback officially entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday and signed Wednesday with the Ole Miss Rebels and first-year head coach Pete Golding, according to On3. The move came just two days before the 14-day winter portal window closed.

Howard, who will have one season of eligibility remaining, previously spent time at both Ole Miss and LSU Tigers before transferring to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns for the 2025 season. He appeared in six games for Louisiana, completing 18 of 41 passes for 155 yards with three interceptions. An oblique injury suffered in the season opener against Rice sidelined him for six weeks, and he was unable to reclaim the starting job.

Howard previously served as the backup to Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Dart later became a first-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL draft.

A former four-star recruit in the 2022 class, Howard signed with LSU out of St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, and played sparingly under then-coach Brian Kelly. Howard’s return to Oxford also brings an off-field subplot. He is the former boyfriend of Landry Kiffin, the daughter of former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, who departed the program for LSU before Ole Miss' College Football Playoff run.

Despite limited game action, Howard adds experienced depth to Ole Miss’ quarterback room as Golding begins his tenure in Oxford. He'll likely be there to back up Trinidad Chambliss, who await an appeal decision by the State of Mississippi after being denied an extra year by the NCAA.
