Former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow didn’t hesitate in his assessment of Trinidad Chambliss.
On the SEC Network postgame show after the Ole Miss Rebels stunned the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl, Tebow placed Chambliss’ performance among the best in College Football Playoff history.
“I feel like it was one of the best quarterback performances that we have seen since the College Football Playoff has been in existence,” Tebow said. “It was awesome.”

Chambliss backed up the praise in Ole Miss’ 39-34 quarterfinal victory, throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns while orchestrating a comeback few anticipated. He completed 13 consecutive passes during a decisive stretch, repeatedly escaping pressure and delivering accurate throws against Georgia’s aggressive defense.
The performance capped a rapid rise for Chambliss, who won a Division II national championship a year ago at Ferris State Bulldogs before transferring to Ole Miss as a presumed backup.
Chambliss’ calm stood out amid postseason turbulence, with Pete Golding guiding the Rebels following Lane Kiffin’s departure to LSU Tigers. Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter credited Chambliss for holing the team together through the transition.
From Division II champion to CFP standout, Chambliss turned the Sugar Bowl into a defining statement and one that validated Tebow’s lofty praise and etched his name into Playoff history.
