Urban Meyer severely underestimates Miami against Ohio State image

Urban Meyer badly missed the mark with his Cotton Bowl prediction, and social media was quick to remind him after No. 10 Miami stunned No. 2 Ohio State 24-14 to advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

The former Buckeyes coach and current FOX Sports analyst said earlier in the week that Miami would struggle to score against Ohio State’s defense. Instead, the Hurricanes flipped the script with relentless pressure and timely takeaways at the Cotton Bowl.

Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin failed to execute throughout the night. The turning point came in the second quarter when Miami defensive back Keionte Scott jumped a screen pass and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown.

Meyer’s comments resurfaced immediately after the game. While on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, he said he did not see Miami scoring and predicted Ohio State would win if it reached two touchdowns. The Buckeyes did exactly that and still lost.

Fans piled on Meyer online, which was one of the best things to end the year. With the semifinals kicking off next week, expect Meyer to think twice before doubting the strength of the Hurricanes.
