It's been a nightmare start to the Cotton Bowl for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes weren't moving the ball much, and they gave up two early touchdowns, including an ugly pick-six thrown by Julian Sayin.

Part of the problem has been that in the early going, the passing game has been one-dimensional.

Through the 14-0 deficit, Jeremiah Smith had done a lot (which is good), but Carnell Tate hadn't done anything.

Is Carnell Tate playing tonight?

Yes, the star Tate is playing for Ohio State on Wednesday night.

He's out there in No. 17 running routes. He had an early target from Sayin but nothing to show for it.

Sayin is mostly targeting Smith, though.

Smith has three early catches for 82 yards, including a long one that preceded the pick-six.

Tate will have to get going to get Ohio State back in the game.
