The Ohio State Buckeyes confused their fans a week ago.
Taking on Purdue, OSU didn't play star wide receiver Carnell Tate at all.
There was no news about such a move before the game. And all head coach Ryan Day really provided was that it was something minor that the Buckeyes didn't want to risk.
Ohio State plays Saturday against UCLA at 7:30 p.m. ET, and Tate's availability isn't much clearer.

Is Carnell Tate playing today?
No one really knows whether Tate will play Saturday for Ohio State against UCLA.
If OSU is truly being cautious with an injury of his. The Buckeyes likely don't need him in a game they're favored to win by 31 points.
"It's not the ideal situation, you never want the top players to get hurt, and the coaches don't want Tate to get rusty with the Michigan game around the corner," writes Corey Long of Scarlet & Game. "But expect Day and the Buckeyes staff to err on the side of caution this week."
There will likely be insight to be gleaned one way or the other.
If Tate plays, then it's likely he's all good going forward.
If Tate sits, it's a situation that will be worth monitoring. He's the perfect WR partner to Jeremiah Smith, and Ohio State's offense is immensely impressive when they both play.
