Bill Belichick’s girlfriend may have hinted at his next move long before the latest coaching vacancy opened up in East Rutherford.

On Monday, the New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll after another disappointing season at 2-8, marking their fifth coaching change since Tom Coughlin’s departure in 2015. 

As speculation swirls about who might replace Daboll, some are pointing to Bill Belichick to make an NFL return. However, last year's Halloween costume from Jordon Hudson, Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend, might've been a subtle hint about his future endeavors.

What to make of J-Huds vintage dress up

In 2024, Hudson dressed as Belichick in Giants gear, which can have many angles as to why.

Belichick's feud with the Patriots is well-known and was hot at the time. But clearly, there's a tie as to why she landed on the Giants, given the fact that she was 11 years from being born when he left the Meadowlands. 

At the time, the costume was chalked up as a playful homage to her boyfriend’s NFL legacy. But with Daboll now gone, it suddenly feels more like foreshadowing.

“I think Belichick would do it in a second,” long-time NFL columnist Gary Myers said last week when asked about a possible Belichick-Giants reunion.

Belichick’s roots with the Giants run deep. He served as Bill Parcells’ defensive coordinator from 1985-90, helping the team win two Super Bowls. A potential return would make for a full-circle moment, but it would also come with major baggage.

At 73, Belichick is no long-term fix, and his recent stint at North Carolina hasn’t helped his reputation. His Tar Heels have underachieved, and his off-field relationship with Hudson has drawn tabloid-style attention that could prove as a distraction for rebuilding an NFL franchise.

Also, Hudson and Belichick would feel the burn of the Big Apple spotlight more than they do in Chapel Hill. Would she be ready for that type of attention?

Where does Belichick sit with the Giants?

The nostalgia with Belichick runs strong in New York.

Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch haven’t hired a proven winner since Coughlin, and Belichick’s name recognition could tempt them once again. 

Yet, given his recent struggles adapting to the modern game and the drama surrounding him, the Giants should resist the urge for a reunion.
