FOX Sports contributor calls on Bill Belichick to retire following terrible loss image

Dave Portnoy usually doesn't hold back and this weekend was no exception.

The FOX Sports contributor and Barstool Sports founder called on North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick to retire Saturday night as the Tar Heels absorbed a “disgusting” 28-12 loss to Wake Forest.

Portnoy voiced his criticism on X, writing, “Belichick needs to retire. This is disgusting. I’m not even sure he knows the score or where he is.” The growing frustration surrounding Belichick’s troubled first season in Chapel Hill is evident.

North Carolina failed to reach the end zone, settling for four field goals from kicker Rece Verhoff. Meanwhile, the Demon Deacons had their way with the Tar Heels for sixty minutes.

The Tar Heels fell to 4-6, placing them in danger of missing a bowl in Belichick's debut season. While the postseason might be a forgone conclusion, the on-field struggles have fueled speculation about Belichick’s future. Rumors tying him to the New York Giants’ expected coaching vacancy have surfaced.

Belichick dismissed the reports last month, calling them “categorically false,” and reaffirmed his commitment again this week.

North Carolina must win out against Duke and NC State to keep its postseason hopes alive. A tough way to end, but at least Belichick's doesn't have to go far to make it possible.
