Bill Belichick's tenure as North Carolina's head coach has certainly been chaotic.

The former New England Patriots coach joined the college ranks after spending his entire career in the NFL, a jump that surprised many people. However, it has been anything but smooth for Belichick, who has brought chaos both on and off the field to Chapel Hill.

In less than a year, Belichick has been embroiled in several controversies as the Tar Heels' head coach. Here's a timeline of all the issues that North Carolina has faced since hiring Belichick.

December 11, 2024: North Carolina names Bill Belichick the 35th head coach in program history.

December 12, 2024: North Carolina introduces Belichick at a press conference.

February 28, 2025: The Athletic reports that UNC will be the first college team to be featured on HBO's "Hard Knocks."

March 3, 2025: After Belichick announces his staff, which includes his son Steve Belichick as defensive coordinator. The Athletic reports that UNC's "Hard Knocks" negotiations fell through after Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, got involved.

March 13, 2025: Matt Hartman of The Assembly reveals that Belichick asked UNC staff to copy Jordon Hudson on all of his emails.

April 15, 2025: The Athletic publishes a story detailing how involved Hudson was in the program, which includes publicizing several of Belichick and Hudson's emails.

April 27, 2025: Belichick appears on "CBS Sunday Morning" with Hudson commenting in the background.

April 28, 2025: TMZ reports that Hudson stormed off the set of the "CBS Sunday Morning" interview.

"We're told outside of that baffling moment that made the final edit, there were numerous other instances of Hudson butting in -- even when the legendary coach was answering questions about football, she would stop and correct him," TMZ said.

April 30, 2025: UNC releases statement saying it was a "false narrative" that Hudson tried to control the CBS interview.

At the same time, The Athletic reports that Hudson played a key role in HBO dropping UNC as the subject of "Hard Knocks."

May 9, 2025: Pablo Torre reports that Hudson is banned from the UNC facility.

May 13, 2025: The Washington Post publishes a story detailing how Hudson's handling of Belichick's PR became difficult for North Carolina.

"It's just so odd," a UNC official said in the story. "And we just don't know what's coming. Those two decide what they're going to do, and they do it."

May 16, 2025: Belichick appears on an episode of "The Pivot" podcast with Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder.

May 20, 2025: A New York Times story details how Hudson demanded content approval and partial ownership of "Hard Knocks," and it revealed that Hudson told at least one person that she and Belichick were engaged.

May 23, 2025: Pablo Torre investigates Ring Camera footage of Belichick from 2023 that confirms he was with Hudson at the time. Torre also reports that Hudson was around the Patriots as early as 2021.

May 30, 2025: On an episode of "The Pivot" podcast, co-host Channing Crowder reveals that the Belichick interview was "choreographed" by Hudson.

July 18, 2025: Front Office Sports reports that UNC will be featured on a Hulu docuseries.

August 27, 2025: Darren Rovell reports TCE Rights Management LLC, a company run by Hudson filed for 17 trademarks including "Gold Digger" and "Chapel Bill."

September 1, 2025: Belichick and UNC are blown out 48-14 against TCU in their season and home opener.

September 4, 2025: ESPN's Kayln Kahler reports that UNC banned Patriots scouts from the facility and offers limited access to all NFL scouts.

September 6, 2025: Belichick confirms that ban on Patriots staff saying, "It's obvious I'm not welcome at their facility, so they're not welcome at ours."

October 6, 2025: 247 Sports' Ross Martin reports that UNC social media staff was banned from tweeting or re-tweeting anything related to the Patriots, including about quarterback Drake Maye.

October 7, 2025: UNC cornerbacks coach Armond Hawkins is suspended for reportedly offering extra benefits to a player's family members. Additionally, the UNC docuseries with Hulu is cancelled.

October 8, 2025: Multiple reports hint at Belichick and UNC possibly parting ways, as North Carolina may have committed recruiting violations. Additionally, WRAL's Pat Welter reports that there is concern of nepotism and other questions involving Belichick's staff.
