The Duke Blue Devils football program usually plays second fiddle in Durham to those kings on the hardwood at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Turns out, the Cameron Crazies were crucial in ensuring Duke ended up with quarterback Darian Mensah, a gold-plated transfer QB who has turned these gridiron Blue Devils into serious contenders.
Mensah came over after a season at Tulane for a bunch of reasons, but it's the end result that matters: Duke, yes Duke, has one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
Why did Darian Mensah transfer to Duke?
Darian Mensah transferred to Duke for a bunch of reasons, but a crucial piece of picking this particular school and not just any Power 4 program was truly the Cameron Crazies.
Those rowdy basketball fans welcomed Mensah with open arms when he took his official visit in December while Duke hosted Incarnate Word. He didn't take long to commit.
"As soon as I got there, it was on my official (visit), Duke had the Cameron Crazies call me out," Mensah said at the ACC Football Kickoff. "It was awesome, just feeling that love there. Durham in general just reminds me of home... the community, the support, my teammates have all been great in helping my transition."
