The Oklahoma Sooners broke out alternate uniforms for their Saturday ranked matchup with Missouri.
OU's jerseys are dark gray, officially called anthracite, with crimson trim.
Instead of player names on the back, the word UNITY appears.
It drew the attention of college football fans on Saturday with the game televised on ABC.
Why do Oklahoma uniforms say unity?
Oklahoma's uniforms send a message with the word TOGETHER on the front and UNITY on the back.
The Sooners have worn them once per season beginning in 2022.
They were designed by a group of OU student-athletes.
They are meant to honor Prentice Gautt, who was the first Black scholarship football player at Oklahoma.
The Sooners also designed "Unity" uniforms for their other varsity sports teams.
"I have so much respect for our current and former student-athletes for their leadership during this process and for how they really wanted to — and continue to want to — make a difference by bringing people together within our university and beyond," said OU athletic director Joe Castiglione in 2022, via a press release. "As an athletics department, we value student-athlete engagement and include their voice in strengthening their experience as well as ways they can positively impact others. In this case especially, we were proud of their efforts and eager to support the endeavor."
