The No. 8 Clemson Tigers are trending the wrong way early this season. Just a week after falling 17-10 to LSU, they nearly suffered another setback against Troy.
Clemson entered Saturday’s matchup as a 33.5-point favorite, but Troy held a late lead before the Tigers rallied for a 27-16 win.

Where is Troy located?
Troy University is located in Troy, Ala. The city of Troy is located in the southern part of the state, sitting roughly 53 miles south of Montgomery, Ala.
Troy was founded in 1887, and as of 2023 had an undergraduate enrollment of just over 11,000 students. The main Phenix City campus holds most of the students enrolled, but the university also has satellite Dothan and Montgomery campuses. has a total enrollment
What conference does Troy play in?
Troy has played in the Sun Belt for most of its college football existence. Although the Trojans were independent 2001-03, they joined the conference in 2004 and have played there ever since.
The Trojans have won eight Sun Belt titles in their history, the most in the conference. They last won the conference in 2017, but played in the conference title game in 2022 and 2023.
Two of their best seasons came during those years under former head coach Jon Sumrall, who is now at Tulane. The Trojans had back-to-back double-digit win seasons during those two years. Troy also went a combined 31-8 under Neal Brown from 2016-18.
Notable Troy football upsets
Troy has had some notable upsets in the past, and a couple against Power Conference teams. The Trojans beat LSU at home 24-21 back in 2017. The Trojans also knocked off Missouri 24-14.
