Which undefeated college football team will lose first?

A total of 11 FBS schools maintained unbeaten records through the first half of the regular season.

Four of those teams are underdogs in Week 8.

Who are those unbeaten teams? The Power 4 has eight perfect teams remaining with two teams in each conference.

That includes No. 1 Ohio State (6-0) and No. 3 Indiana (6-0) – teams that appear to be on a collision course in the Big Ten. No. 4 Texas A&M (6-0) and No. 5 Ole Miss (6-0) are still unblemished in the SEC. No. 2 Miami (5-0) and No. 12 Georgia Tech (6-0) are the ACC teams, and No. 7 Texas Tech (6-0) and No. 15 BYU (6-0) are the unbeaten teams in the Big 12.

There are three other FBS schools with unbeaten records. No. 22 Memphis (6-0) and Navy (6-0) have stayed unbeaten, and UNLV (6-0) is the last perfect team left in the Mountain West Conference.

BYU will face Texas Tech and Memphis will play Navy in the regular season. If Indiana and Ohio State remain unbeaten, they will play in the Big Ten title game. It is likely the same with Miami-Georgia Tech in the ACC and Ole Miss-Texas A&M in the SEC but not 100 percent guaranteed.

How long can those teams stay unbeaten? Sporting News takes a closer look at when each team will lose their first game this season, starting with those teams that are predicted to lose this week.

UNLV (6-0)

Jai'Den Thomas

Remaining schedule: at Boise State (Oct. 18), vs. New Mexico (Nov. 1), at Colorado State (Nov. 8), vs. Utah State (Nov. 15), vs. Hawaii (Nov. 21), at Nevada (Nov. 29)

First loss: at Boise State (Oct. 18)

The Rebels are double-digit underdogs this weekend against the Broncos, and this is the most likely loss on the schedule. UNLV, Boise State and San Diego State are all 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play, and the Rebels do not play the Aztecs. Running back Jai'Den Thomas (577 yards, 6 TDs) averages eight yards per carry – the most among running backs with at least 500 yards. First-year coach Dan Mullen has done a marvelous job, and UNLV has four one-score victories this season.

No. 5 Ole Miss (6-0)

Harrison Wallace III

Remaining schedule: at No. 9 Georgia (Oct. 18), at No. 14 Oklahoma (Oct. 25), vs. South Carolina (Nov. 1), vs. The Citadel (Nov. 8), vs. Florida (Nov. 15), at Mississippi State (Nov. 28)

First loss: at No. 9 Georgia (Oct. 18)

The next two weeks are huge for the Rebels, who have a front-loaded SEC schedule. Ole Miss beat Georgia 28-10 last season, but the Rebels are a touchdown underdog at Sanford Stadium. Then, Ole Miss travels to Oklahoma. Even a split in these games would keep the Rebels in the SEC championship game hunt. This is arguably Lane Kiffin's best team, and quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is emerging as a Heisman Trophy candidate. The November schedule is very friendly with three home games before the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State.

No. 15 BYU (6-0)

Bear Bachmeier BYU Cougars 100125

Remaining schedule: vs. No. 23 Utah (Oct. 18), at Iowa State (Oct. 25), at No. 7 Texas Tech (Nov. 8), vs. TCU (Nov. 15), at No. 24 Cincinnati (Nov. 22), vs. UCF

First loss: vs. No. 23 Utah (Oct. 18)

BYU beat Utah in 2021 and 2024. Will the Cougars – who are underdogs on Saturday –  lose the "Holy War” against Utah? BYU has a tough road schedule that features trips to Iowa State, Texas Tech and Cincinnati. It will be difficult to sweep those games, but the Cougars are 6-2 in one-score games since last season. That included a 33-27 double-overtime thriller at Arizona on Oct. 11. A 10-2 record at the end of the regular-season still might be enough to get in the Big 12 championship game.

No. 4 Texas A&M (6-0)

Mario Craver

Remaining schedule: at Arkansas (Oct. 18), at No. 10 LSU (Oct. 25), at No. 16 Missouri (Nov. 8), vs. South Carolina (Nov. 15), vs. Samford (Nov. 22), at No. 21 Texas (Nov. 28)

First loss: at No. 10 LSU (Oct. 25)

The Aggies have a tough three-game stretch with three straight road games. Arkansas – an old Southwest Conference rival – will not be easy even though Texas A&M has won 12 of the last 13 meetings. Texas A&M travels to Tiger Stadium the following weekend, and it's a night game. The Tigers are 17-1 in home night games under Brian Kelly. Texas A&M also has road trips to Missouri and Texas in the final month of the regular season. If the Aggies get to 10 wins, then they should be good to make the CFP as a SEC at-large team.

No. 22 Memphis (6-0)

Brendon Lewis

Remaining schedule: at UAB (Oct. 18), vs. No. 19 South Florida (Oct. 25), at Rice (Oct. 31), vs. Tulane (Nov. 7), at East Carolina (Nov. 15), vs. Navy (Nov. 27)

First loss: vs. No. 19 South Florida (Nov. 1)

The Tigers have the advantage in the American Conference race knowing South Florida, Tulane and Navy – the other teams that are unbeaten in conference play – have to come to the Liberty Bowl. Can Memphis sweep those teams? South Florida will be the toughest matchup, and it will be interesting to see the line on that game. Memphis has won the last four matchups – including a 21-3 victory last season. It's a huge game because the Bulls do not play Tulane.

No. 7 Texas Tech (6-0)

Jacob Rodriguez

Remaining schedule: at Arizona State (Oct. 18), vs. Oklahoma State (No. 7), at Kansas State (Nov. 1), at No. 15 BYU (Nov. 8), vs. UCF (Nov. 15), vs. West Virginia (Nov. 29).

First loss: at Kansas State (Nov. 1)

The Red Raiders have looked amazing through the first half of the season. Texas Tech ranks second in the FBS in scoring offense (47.5 ppg.) and seventh in scoring defense (12.2 ppg.). Texas Tech will not lose any of their remaining home games. There are some land-mines on the road, including this week's matchup at Arizona State if quarterback Behren Morton (leg) can't play. Just keep an eye on that game at Kansas State on Nov. 1. The Wildcats have recalibrated after a miserable September, and they have won the last eight meetings against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders have not won in Manhattan since 2008.

Navy (6-0)

Tommy Gilligan (USA Today Network)

Remaining schedule: vs. FAU (Oct. 25), at North Texas (Nov. 1), at No. 13 Notre Dame (Nov. 8), vs. No. 19 South Florida (Nov. 15), at No. 22 Memphis (Nov. 27), vs. Army (Dec. 13)

First loss: at No. 13 Notre Dame (Nov. 8)

Navy pulled out thrilling victories against Air Force and Temple the last two weeks, and quarterback Blake Horvath compiled 980 passing yards, 640 rushing yards and 15 total TDs through six games. The schedule will amp up after the bye week, including a stretch against three consecutive ranked teams. The road trip to North Texas is not a walk-over game either. Ultimately, the trip to Notre Dame will be the toughest test. The Irish have won seven in a row in the series, and Navy has not won in South Bend since 2009.

No. 12 Georgia Tech (6-0)

Remaining schedule: at Duke (Oct. 18), vs. Syracuse (Oct. 25), at NC State (Nov. 1), at Boston College (Nov. 15), vs. Pitt (Nov. 22), vs. No. 9 Georgia (Nov. 29)

First loss: vs. No. 9 Georgia (Nov. 29)

The Yellow Jackets are an underdog at Duke this weekend. Blue Devils quarterback Darian Mensah leads the ACC with 15 TD passes. Georgia Tech's Haynes King (440 yards, 9 TDs), Malachi Hosley (384 yards, 5 TDs) and Jamal Haynes (380 yards, 3 TDs) all rank in the top-15 in the ACC in rushing. It will be a road challenge for Georgia Tech, but we picked them to win in Week 8. Georgia Tech should be favored in every game afterward until the regular-season finale against Georgia. The Bulldogs beat the Yellow Jackets 44-42 in eight overtimes last season. The tricky part for Georgia Tech could be losing that game, then potentially losing the ACC championship game. Would a two-loss Yellow Jackets' team be left out of the CFP?

No. 3 Indiana (6-0)

Fernando Mendoza

Remaining schedule: vs. Michigan State (Oct. 18), vs. UCLA (Oct. 25), at Maryland (Nov. 1), at Penn State (Nov. 8), vs. Wisconsin (Nov. 15), at Purdue (Nov. 28)

First loss: vs. No. 1 Ohio State (Dec. 6)

That means the Hoosiers will get to the Big Ten championship game with a perfect 12-0 record, and we believe that. Indiana ranks fourth in the FBS in both scoring offense (44.8 ppg.) and scoring defense (11.3 ppg.). Curt Cignetti's team could be double-digit favorites in every remaining regular-season game, including the road trip to Penn State on Nov. 8. That's still a tricky game, but it's more tenable given where the Nittany Lions are now. That means the first matchup between unbeaten teams in Big Ten championship game history.

No. 2 Miami (5-0)

Rueben Bain Jr.

Remaining schedule: vs. Louisville (Oct. 17), vs. Stanford (Oct. 25), at SMU (Nov. 1), vs. Syracuse (Nov. 8), vs. NC State (Nov. 15), at Virginia Tech (Nov. 22), at Pitt (Nov. 29)

First loss: vs. No. 1 Ohio State (Jan. 19)

Do we really believe "The U" can stay unbeaten in ACC play and make a run to the College Football Playoff championship game? The combination of dominant offensive and defensive lines has worked so far, but it's still presumptuous knowing the Hurricanes have lost five games to unranked teams since 2023. Can this team stay focused? Of those remaining seven games, this Friday's game against Louisville and the road trip to SMU (Nov. 1) are the potential upset alerts. We still think the Hurricanes will make a run to at least the CFP semifinals.

No. 1 Ohio State (6-0)

Remaining schedule: at Wisconsin (Oct. 18), vs. Penn State (Nov. 1), at Purdue (Nov. 8), vs. UCLA (Nov. 15), vs. Rutgers (Nov. 22), at Michigan (Nov. 29)

First loss: None

The Buckeyes' defense – led by Sporting News Midseason All-Americans Caden Curry, Arvell Reese and Caleb Downs –  allows 6.8 points per game. Jeremiah Smith – also a Midseason All-American – leads the Big Ten with seven receiving TDs. Julian Sayin leads all Power 4 quarterbacks with a 188.1 passer rating. How many more superlatives do you need? Ohio State will be heavily favored in every regular-season games – and there is the matter of ending a four-game losing streak to Michigan on Nov. 29. That's the best chance for a loss – and we're not seeing it this year. If Ohio State loses, then it will be either in the Big Ten championship game or College Football Playoff. Are you picking this team to lose?
