Tulsa finally broke through on Friday night, snapping a seven decades long drought with a 19-12 win over Oklahoma State.

The Golden Hurricane hadn’t won in Stillwater since 1951, dropping 23 straight on the road in the series. Tulsa quarterback Baylor Hayes and kicker Seth Morgan delivered a historic victory for the program.

Hayes made just his second career start,  completing 23-of-36 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown. He protected the football with no interceptions in the win. His efficiency allowed Tulsa to control the tempo, while Morgan handled the scoring load. The veteran kicker drilled three field goals, including one from 47 yards. Tulsa took a 16-3 halftime lead before OSU tried to stage a comeback.

The Cowboys came in the game off a bye week but reeling after a 69-3 thrashing by Oregon. They showed fight behind quarterback Zane Flores, who accounted for 270 total yards, including a five-yard rushing touchdown to spark a fourth-quarter rally. Logan Ward’s 49-yard field goal pulled the Cowboys within a score at 19-12, but their comeback fell short when Gavin Freeman was forced out of bounds at the Tulsa 10-yard line in the closing seconds.

For Tulsa, first-year head coach Tre Lamb called it a “statement win” for the program, insisting it marked a turning point. The Golden Hurricane (2-2) bounced back from a disappointing losses to Navy and New Mexico State with a defense that limited OSU to just three first-half points despite 403 total yards.

For Mike Gundy and the Pokes, the loss deepens a troubling slide that started last year. They’ve now dropped 11 of their last 12 games and are 0-9 following losses since the start of Big 12 conference play in 2024.
