Arkansas sits at a crossroads, and the Razorbacks may soon face a critical decision on the future of Sam Pittman. If a change comes, the program won’t lack for attractive candidates. From homegrown offensive minds to proven program builders and even a wild card who once resurrected a team from the ashes.

At the top of the list is Rhett Lashlee, the current SMU head coach. A Springdale native and former Razorback quarterback, Lashlee has guided SMU into ACC contention with a high-powered offense and strong recruiting base in Texas. His in-state ties make him a natural fit, though his recent contract extension would require significant financial commitment from Arkansas.

Ryan Silverfield has vaulted into the conversation as well. His Memphis Tigers are 4–0 after a 32–31 victory over Pittman’s squad, further solidifying his credentials. Silverfield has already produced back-to-back double-digit win seasons, making him one of the hottest names in the region.

Another offensive option is Tyson Helton of Western Kentucky, whose teams are known for explosive passing attacks and quarterback development. He would bring excitement to Fayetteville with a modern scheme built to score quickly.

Closer to home, Travis Williams, Arkansas’ defensive coordinator, could provide continuity. He’s praised for his energy and recruiting chops, and his promotion would be the easiest transition. The concern would be that he’s never run his own program.

And then comes the wild card: Bill Clark. The former UAB coach famously rebuilt the Blazers after the program was shut down, winning two conference titles before stepping away in 2022 due to back problems. Though he’s been out of the game, Clark’s reputation as a culture-builder makes him an intriguing possibility should he ever consider returning.

Arkansas will weigh risk, cost, and fit carefully. Lashlee may be the dream choice, Silverfield the hottest name today, Helton the offensive spark, Williams the smoothest transition, and Clark the boldest swing. One way or another, the Razorbacks have plenty of options as they chart their future in the SEC.
