An unbeaten season died in Austin on Friday night, but if Steve Sarkisian has his way, both teams will be included in the College Football Playoff bracket in a little more than a week.

Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns knocked off No. 3 Texas A&M 27-17 with the help of a dominant second half. After struggling offensively throughout the first half, Texas started to find offensive momentum in the third quarter and jumped out to a two-possession lead by the early minutes of the fourth quarter.

A touchdown drive by Marcel Reed and the Aggies had some fans remembering Texas A&M's rapid comeback against South Carolina two weeks ago, but a comeback was not in the cards. Texas regained control on a 35-yard Arch Manning touchdown run, and Reed was intercepted twice late in the fourth quarter to seal a deflating loss for the Aggies.

Texas A&M will be in the playoff at 11-1, but the Aggies won't play again until the tournament kicks off. The loss eliminated Texas A&M from SEC title contention, clinching Georgia's spot in the conference championship and putting Mike Elko's team at risk of missing out on a first-round bye.

Texas, meanwhile, will have to endure an agonizing nine-day wait to learn its playoff fate, which might require some favorable results on Saturday. Sarkisian was clear on his stance after the win on Friday, telling the broadcast it would be a "disservice to the sport" if his Longhorns are not included in the field of 12.

Final: Texas 27, Texas A&M 17

11:16 p.m. — Texas runs out the clock, and this game is over. The Longhorns knock Texas A&M out of the SEC championship game and have an agonizing nine-day wait ahead.

11:08 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Reed is intercepted again! This one is now over, regardless of what the clock says. 

11:07 p.m. — The Aggies get the ball back with solid field position, but they are going to have to move very, very quickly to have a chance.

11:03 p.m. INTERCEPTION — Marcel Reed is intercepted in the red zone! That will just about do it, pending a safety. Texas' defense has had a night to be proud of.

10:59 p.m. — Texas A&M is into Texas territory after a 19-yard reception by KC Concepcion, who has been the center of the Aggies' offense tonight.

10:53 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — There goes Arch Manning! The redshirt sophomore goes 35 yards all the way to the end zone, and Texas A&M is running out of time down by 10 again with 7:11 to play.

10:48 p.m. — After a penalty boosts Texas' field position, Manning hits Endries for 21 yards on the first play of the drive. Endries is up to 93 yards.

Texas 20, Texas A&M 17

10:44 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — EJ Smith scores and cuts Texas' lead to three! Don't count the Aggies out just yet. We have a game.

10:44 p.m. — Reed hits Melin Ohrstrom to take Texas A&M into the red zone.

10:43 p.m. — After an offensive pass interference penalty backs up Texas A&M, a facemask penalty against Texas gives the Aggies new life. 

10:37 p.m. — Texas A&M forces a quick punt, so Marcel Reed will have an opportunity to put some pressure on Texas' defense down by two scores.

10:31 p.m. — Once again, the Aggies reverse course after taking a penalty and will punt it away to the Longhorns. Texas has a chance to effectively put this game away with a touchdown on this drive.

10:30 p.m. — Texas will go for it on fourth down after Rueben Owens II comes up just short. 

Texas 20, Texas A&M 10

10:25 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Nick Townsend takes it in for the Texas touchdown! The Longhorns are in control, up 20-10.

10:21 p.m. — Jack Endries goes 54 yards and has Texas inside the 5-yard line! The third quarter was a disastrous one for Texas A&M, and the start of the fourth could quickly make it worse. The Longhorns are on the verge of going up two scores.

10:17 p.m. — A false start backs Texas A&M up and naturally convinces Mike Elko to punt. The Aggies' defense will try to get its first stop of the half. 

10:15 p.m. — It's now 4th & 1 near midfield for A&M. A massive play is coming up after a Texas timeout.

10:13 p.m. — The Aggies convert and are starting to lean a bit more on their rushing attack as they try to get the offense moving again.

10:10 p.m. — Texas A&M has a critical 3rd & 1 coming out of a timeout.

Texas 13, Texas A&M 10

10:01 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Manning finds Ryan Wingo wide open in the back of the end zone! Just like that, Texas leads.

10:00 p.m. — The Aggies are really having a hard time with Wisner now. The running back has gone for 16 and 17 yards already on this drive and has Texas well into A&M territory.

9:56 p.m. — Texas forces another three-and-out as Reed misses Concepcion on a downfield shot. The Aggies went for it all on 3rd & 2 but will punt this one away again. 

Texas A&M 10, Texas 6

9:50 p.m. — Manning is called for intentional grounding on third down, but Mason Shipley's 46-yard field goal is good. The Longhorns cut into A&M's lead.

9:48 p.m. — Manning was a bit too hesitant on 2nd & 11 and misses his target. A big third down is upcoming.

9:46 p.m. — Wisner breaks free for 48 yards! The run is followed by a pass interference call that already has Texas knocking on the door.

9:44 p.m. — Texas' defense forces a quick three-and-out and nearly blocks the punt. The Longhorns are one touchdown drive away from tying the game.

End of first half: Texas A&M 10, Texas 3

9:19 p.m. — Texas A&M forces a punt after taking Manning down, and that will effectively end the half with the Aggies in front by seven. Manning is just 8-of-21 for 51 yards.

9:15 p.m. — Texas only had 52 seconds to work with, but the Longhorns are picking up some chunk plays and are into A&M territory after Manning hits Quintrevion Wisner for 11 yards.

Texas A&M 10, Texas 3

9:10 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Concepcion runs it in himself for the touchdown! Texas A&M will take its first lead of the night, pending review.

9:04 p.m. — Texas A&M continues to drive down the field after the two-minute warning, with Reed hitting Concepcion on third down to set up 1st & Goal. The Aggies will have 71 seconds to work with after a Longhorns timeout.

8:59 p.m. — Reed hits Craver for seven yards and a big first down.

8:58 p.m. — Reed and the Aggies can't do much with that field position, picking up five yards in three plays. They seem to be prepared to go for it on fourth down.

8:56 p.m. — KC Concepcion stays alive for a nice return that will set up Texas A&M with strong field position. 

8:55 p.m. — The Aggies' defenses forces an incompletion on third down and will force another punt. Manning is just 5-of-17 for 28 yards tonight. 

8:54 p.m. — A downfield catch by Jack Endries is erased by a holding penalty on Texas. It's going to be 3rd & Long for the Longhorns.

Texas 3, Texas A&M 3

8:50 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Jared Zirkel knocks this one through from 31 yards out, and this game is all even. 

8:47 p.m. — A&M will attempt a short field goal to tie the game.

8:45 p.m. — Texas A&M is leaning heavily on its rushing attack, but that includes the hobbled Reed, who takes off for 13 yards to take the Aggies into the red zone. Given A&M's kicking issues, getting this into the end zone could be especially critical. 

8:41 p.m. — Reed hits Theo Melin Ohrstrom for 12 yards on his first pass since returning.

8:40 p.m. — Reed is back in the game. His effectiveness will be worth watching closely.

Texas 3, Texas A&M 0

8:36 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Texas settles for a field goal after a pair of incompletions, but points are points. The Longhorns strike first.

8:31 p.m. — Manning is starting to gain momentum on the ground now, rushing for 23 yards on his first three carries. Texas moves into A&M territory after Manning hits Jack Endries on first down.

8:23 p.m. — Texas A&M's field goal try is no good on a deflection. A disastrous sequence at the end of a promising drive for the Aggies. We're still scoreless.

8:21 p.m. — Reed is able to get off the field on his own, but there is concern for the Heisman Trophy contender. Miles O'Neill is in the game on 3rd & Long in the red zone.

8:20 p.m. — Marcel Reed is down with a non-contact injury.

8:17 p.m. — Texas gets hit with an unnecessary roughness penalty after Mario Craver is slammed to the ground at the end of a 16-yard gain. The Aggies are set up in the red zone.

8:14 p.m. — Reed uses his legs to pick up 21 yards and take the Aggies into Texas territory.

8:12 p.m. — Reed hits KC Concepcion for the biggest play of the game so far, with Concepcion doing some work after the catch and picking up 17 yards. 

8:07 p.m. — Manning's deep pass to Ryan Wingo is broken up. There is no flag, despite Texas' protests, and they had a real case. The Longhorns will have to punt for a third time.

8:06 p.m. — Texas picks up its second first down of the night on a catch by TE Jack Endries.

8:04 p.m. — Ashton Bethel-Roman drops a pass from Reed on third down, so we are headed to our fourth punt of the game. Reed is 2-of-5 for 16 yards, and each team has just one first down.

7:57 p.m. — Manning overthrows Ryan Wingo on third down, but Texas wanted a defensive pass interference call. It never comes. The Longhorns will punt for the second time tonight, and the first six minutes of this game have now included three punts.

7:52 p.m. — Reed's third down pass bounces off the hands of Mario Craver, so Texas' defense comes through with a quick stop of its own. 

7:49 p.m. — Manning misses DeAndre Moore Jr. On third down, and the Longhorns will punt it away after picking up one first down on their opening drive. Let's see what Marcel Reed can do.

7:48 p.m. — Texas will face another third down in its own territory.

7:47 p.m. — Manning hits Emmett Mosley V for a first down on 3rd & 8. 

7:44 p.m. — Arch Manning and Texas will start with the ball.

7:42 p.m. — ESPN/ABC games rarely start on time, so kickoff is still not yet here.

7:38 p.m. — Texas LB Anthony Hill is out tonight.

7:18 p.m. — Kickoff is nearing as Texas A&M looks to secure a spot in the SEC championship game.

6:35 p.m. — Texas A&M is looking to finish the season unbeaten on the road for the first time since 2012.
