Texas has waited a week to get the taste of its season-opening defeat out of its mouth.

The Longhorns finally get that chance on Saturday morning, as they have their home opener at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium when they face San Jose State.

Texas (0-1), which was the preseason No. 1 in the Associated Press poll, fell 14-7 to defending national champion Ohio State in last week's rematch of January's College Football Playoff semifinal, also won by the Buckeyes. The Longhorns are now ranked No. 7.

It was also a rough opener for the much-ballyhooed redshirt sophomore Arch Manning, in his first season as the Horns' starting quarterback.

Manning was held to 17-of-30 passing for 170 yards and one touchdown, which came in the game's final minutes. The Horns had a chance to tie the score late, but turned it over on downs.

San Jose State (0-1) is also seeking to shake off a tough season-opening loss, as the Spartans fell at home to Central Michigan, 16-14.

POSTGAME

- Arch Manning threw four TD passes in a span of less than five minutes in the first half and added a second-half rushing TD. He finished the game with 295 yards on 19-of-30 passing. Parker Livingstone with four catches for 128 yards and two scores.

FOURTH QUARTER

- Arch Manning's day appears to be done with six minutes left. Manning had 295 yards on 19-of-30 passing with four TDs and a rushing score. 

- SJSU with a sustained drive and is inside the Texas 20. But on a fourth down, a pass is tipped at the line of scrimmage by Liona Lefau, and the Horns take over with more than 10 minutes to go.

- Arch Manning with 263 yards of total offense and five total TDs through three quarters.

THIRD QUARTER

- Arch Manning tiptoes down the sidelines the last few yards on that TD run.

- TOUCHDOWN TEXAS. A long pass from Manning to Livingstone near the SJSU 10, but a block in the back penalty moves it 10 yards back to the 20. Then Arch Manning takes a keeper on the next play 20 yards to the house. (Texas, 38-7 | :43, 3rd) 

- Arch Manning scrambles on third down and comes up 2 yards shy of the sticks. Horns will go for it, and CJ Baxter bulls forward and will get the first down with less than two minutes left in the period. 

- Texas holds on downs as SJSU overthrows a fourth-down pass at the Horns' 37.

- Since starting 11-of-14 with 180 yards and four TDs, Arch Manning is 3-of-9 for 16 yards with an INT.

- Arch Manning gets brought down to the 1 and fumbles, but Texas recovers. Horns will have to punt it away, however. 

- Texas' defense has forced two punts on San Jose State's two second-half series, holding the Spartans to 19 total yards in that span. 

- FIELD GOAL TEXAS. Drive stalls at the SJSU 29, but Mason Shipley comes on and connects from 47 yards out. (Texas, 31-7 | 10:50, 3rd) 

- Texas' defense forces San Jose State to punt on the opening series of the second half, and Texas' offense is now in business, getting the ball past midfield. 

HALFTIME

- Arch Manning has thrown four TD passes, and the Texas defense has forced four takeaways, turning those into 21 of its points.

SECOND QUARTER

- San Jose State with a drive helped in large part due to a Colin Simmons personal foul. But a long field goal attempt goes wide right as the half comes to an end, and Texas will take a 28-7 lead at the break.

- Arch Manning gets picked off at the 1-yard line, and San Jose State with a huge stop inside the final minute of the half. 

- San Jose State's Leland Smith comes up with an incredible catch on a third down, but after a review, it is ruled incomplete as he did not have full control of the ball. But what a remarkable grab nevertheless. 

- Parker Livingstone made a great catch inside the 5 but it's called back due to holding. Then Arch Manning overthrows Ryan Wingo in the end zone on third and long, and Texas will punt it away with more than five minutes to go in the half. 

- TOUCHDOWN SAN JOSE STATE. Spartans get on the board with a 75-yard drive, capped by a short TD run from Jabari Bates. Let's see if Arch Manning and the Horns' offense keeps it going. (Texas, 28-7 | 8:19, 2nd) 

- TOUCHDOWN TEXAS. Four TD passes for Arch Manning, all coming in a span of 4:56. CJ Baxter had scored a TD from a yard out, but was called back due to a chop block. No matter - from the 16 on the next play, Manning finds Jack Endries over the middle. (Texas, 28-0 | 12:56, 2nd) 

- Trey Moore scoops up the fumble and returns it to the SJSU 1. Horns' defense really coming up huge.

- A sack from Colin Simmons forces a third-and-long, and San Jose State just fumbles it back to Texas.

- Arch Manning has completed each of his last five passes, three of those going for TDs.

- TOUCHDOWN TEXAS. Arch Manning with his third TD strike, a 36-yarder over the middle to Jack Endries one play after the recovered fumble. Manning is finding his groove now with three TDs and 137 yards. (Texas, 21-0 | 14:45, 2nd) 

- TEXAS TAKEAWAY. The fumble is reviewed and upheld, recovered by Ty'Anthony Smith at the SJSU 36. 

- Texas appears to have recovered a fumble but they are reviewing it now. 

- SJSU starts the second quarter with the ball near its 35. 

FIRST QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN TEXAS. Manning finds Parker Livingstone again, this time on a 3-yard slant in the end zone, and the Longhorns take advantage of the pick. (Texas, 14-0 | :12, 1st) 

- CJ Baxter with a couple of nifty runs, and the Horns have first and goal going into the final minute of the opening quarter. 

- And Texas gets an INT on the next play from scrimmage, a tipped pass that lands in the hands of Jaylon Guilbeau. Horns in great shape to add to their lead, at the SJSU 34.

- TOUCHDOWN TEXAS. Finally, a big play for the Horns' offense as Arch Manning connects on a wheel route to Parker Livingstone, who outraces the SJSU secondary for an 83-yard catch-and-run. Three plays, 90 yards on that drive and the Horns are in front. (Texas, 7-0 | 2:52, 1st) 

- San Jose State QB Walker Eget misfires on a couple of throws and the Spartans are punting it away. Texas has the ball for the third time. 

- Texas forces a punt, but the Horns are flagged for roughing the punter, and San Jose State still has the ball, moving near midfield nearly 10 minutes in. 

- A dropped pass by Ryan Wingo on third down, and the Horns are having to punt for the second time. Manning is 3-of-6 for 11 yards.

- Manning gets his first completion, a nice leaping grab from Ryan Wingo for a 10-yard gain to the Texas 41.

- Texas' defense applies pressure on third down, forcing SJSU to attempt a 47-yard field goal. But it's not even close, as it goes wide right. Scoreless nearly five minutes in. 

- San Jose State 2-of-2 on third-down conversions, and the Spartans are inside the Texas 30.

- Ragged start for the Horns continues. Colin Simmons jumps offside, and San Jose State is getting close to field goal range. 

- Texas gives up a third down play as San Jose State executes a successful pop pass. Spartans at the Horns' 40. 

- Manning throws back-to-back incomplete passes, and the penalty wiping out the big play forces Texas to punt on its opening drive. 

- Arch Manning airs it out on his first pass attempt, but overshoots Ryan Wingo and it's nearly intercepted. 

- Big play right out of the gate for Texas, a 23-yard DeAndre Moore run, but it's coming back due to holding.

- Texas is going to have the ball first to start things.
