Texas’ College Football Playoff hopes came to an end Sunday morning following the release of the final playoff rankings. The Longhorns finished the season at 10-3, with losses to Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia.

There was optimism in Austin entering Sunday’s selection show after Georgia defeated Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and Texas Tech upset BYU. However, the final rankings left the Longhorns on the outside looking in.

Texas Longhorns College Football Playoff hopes fail.

Texas is projected to play in the Cheez-It Bowl, where the Longhorns are estimated to face Michigan to close out the 2025 season.

The year marked the first campaign with freshman quarterback Arch Manning at the helm. Texas had reached the College Football Playoff in each of the previous two seasons under former starter Quinn Ewers, but this year’s run fell just short of another berth.
