Syracuse coach Fran Brown admits to 'highway robbery' situation with former player and another school image

Syracuse head coach Fran Brown wanted to send a message to the rest of the nation. During an appearance on the "I AM NEXT" podcast, he discussed his coaching career, a few current events at Syracuse, and navigating through the ever-changing world of college football.

Brown joined hosts Darien Rencher and Mo Hasan to discuss many topics in the course more than an hour. When the topic of the transfer portal came up, he was asked about players being poached away by other programs. To no surprise, the 'Cuse coach had a great response.

"I don't even care, bro," Brown said about programs stealing talent. "Dudes be trying to push up on my wife, she's bad, that's just the game, right? That's what they do." He went on to say, “I ain’t no B----…I’m going to come after you.”

Brown not only encouraged players to leave Syracuse, but admitted to playing a role in getting one former player more money from another school.

"We had a guy leave this year. He told me how much it was going to be. And I'm like, Hey, tell them we could do that, too," Brown said. "He called them back and then he came back and they said this. And I said, well, tell him it ain't enough because we're going to do this. And then he called back, and I said, "Yo, go ahead. Tell them you're coming." He went and got way more bread. Yeah, it's my homie. Go get it. I can't compete with that. I'm not doing that, but now go ahead."

Who doesn't want a better situation, right? Brown was doing what's best in the player's interest. It wasn't personal and just a part of business. That's life. The football part and in general, too. People might disagree, but the new era of college sports has come to this. Brown figured out how to be a true players coach who wants better for everyone around him.

The fact many coaches try to make college football something it's not is logic that will get left behind. More college figureheads need to be like Brown. Until that happens, college football can't evolve with the next generation taking the reins.
