No. 1 Ohio State leads the Sporting News Midseason All-America team with four standouts from the first half of the 2025 college football season.

Jeremiah Smith – who has 40 catches for 505 yards and seven TDs – is one of our three choices at receiver. The Buckeyes also have three standouts from a defense that has allowed 6.8 points per game in six games. Defensive lineman Caden Curry, linebacker Arvell Reese and safety Caleb Downs have been among the many playmakers on that side of the ball under new defensive coordinator Matt Patricia.

Reese – who has 38.5 tackles and 4.5 sacks – is a highlight-reel game-wrecker for the Buckeyes. Curry has six sacks, and Downs has 28 tackles and an interception.

Downs and Smith also were on our Preseason All-America Team

Four schools – Alabama, Miami, Oregon and Texas A&M – have two players apiece on the team. Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson – who has 1,678 yards, 18 TDs and one interception – has the edge among a solid crop of quarterbacks. Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. helped the Hurricanes to a perfect start through five games, and tackle Frances Mauigoa - a SN Preseason All-American – anchors the offensive line.

Texas A&M guard Ar'Maj Reed-Adams and Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore also made our Preseason and Midseason All-American teams.

The Big Ten had 10 selections on our All-America team; one more than the SEC.

Sporting News is one of five outlets used to determine consensus All-American status, so it's a good idea to stay on this team. With that in mind, our picks for 2025 Midseason All-Americans.
