Pat McAfee high school
McAfee attended Plum High School, where he played varsity football, soccer, and volleyball. By his sophomore year, he was a national "Punt, Pass, and Kick" champion—a competition run by the NFL that allowed kids to see how far they could punt, pass, and kick a football.
He later recalled his senior year in 2005, when he heard about a kicking contest in Miami for players seeking scholarships. At the time, he had already been offered a scholarship by Kent State.
McAfee said that over the course of a few days, he won roughly $1,400 in an illegal poker game and used the money to travel to Miami for the camp, where he was offered a scholarship to the college program he would eventually attend.
