Drew Mestemaker will continue his college career in the Big 12.
The former North Texas quarterback announced his commitment to the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday. He follows his head coach, Eric Morris, to Stillwater after two seasons with the Mean Green.
Mestemaker entered the transfer portal shortly after Morris accepted the Oklahoma State job, making the reunion a natural fit for both sides.
A former walk-on at North Texas Mean Green, Mestemaker appeared in five games as a freshman, highlighted by a breakout performance in the program’s bowl game. He seized the starting role as a redshirt freshman in 2025 and quickly emerged as one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder completed 70.2% of his passes while leading the FBS with 4,129 passing yards in 12 games. He accounted for 31 touchdowns against seven interceptions and was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Mestemaker became just the fifth freshman in FBS history to surpass 4,000 passing yards in a season and set multiple single-season passing records at North Texas.
With Morris now leading Oklahoma State, Mestemaker is expected to bring continuity and proven production to the Cowboys’ offense. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining and is positioned to compete for the starting job heading into the 2026 season as Oklahoma State looks to retool its offense around an experienced, high-volume passer.
