The game between the No. 25 USC Trojans and Michigan State Spartans came to an abrupt halt with 42 seconds before halftime.

MSU linebacker Wayne Matthews went down due to an injury on the field and was immediately placed on a stretcher. He was carted away to a nearby ambulance. FOX Sports reporter Alexa Landestoy updated Matthews' condition and said his "Motor skills were intact" and was en route to Los Angeles General for further evaluation.

Matthews injury took the life out of the coliseum with FOX's broadcast team of Jason Benetti and Robert Griffin III in awe of the situation as well. The Old Dominion transfer went down on a nondescript play. He remained motionless as he was taken away. The entire Michigan State team gathered in prayer on the field.

USC was leading 17-10 at the time of Matthew's injury and added another score one play later. Action on the field was delayed by 17 minutes.

Trojans took a 24-10 halftime lead over the Spartans.
