The Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies took far different paths to the 2025 College Football Playoff. Now, just one team can advance.

For Texas A&M, Mike Elko's team sat toward the top of the SEC for most of the regular season, going unbeaten through 11 games. However, the Aggies' final matchup — a loss to Texas — prevented them from earning a first-round playoff bye, as they missed out on the SEC Championship.

Instead, Texas A&M received the consolation prize of hosting a first-round game at College Station, with the Hurricanes coming to town for an SEC-ACC matchup.

Miami's CFP bid over Notre Dame generated plenty of noise, but the reality is the Hurricanes have been playing like a CFP team for most of the year. One-score losses to Louisville and SMU masked an otherwise strong 10-2 campaign, with Miami boasting a talented defense and one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the country, Carson Beck.

The winner of the first-round game in College Station will get a crack at the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Will it be Miami or Texas A&M moving on?
