Matt Leinart fires back at TCU after response to viral tweet image

Former USC quarterback Matt Leinart fired back at TCU on social media after the Horned Frogs trolled him following their dramatic win over the Trojans in the Alamo Bowl.

TCU defeated USC 30-27 on a walk-off touchdown in overtime Tuesday night and later poked fun at Leinart by twisting USC’s “Fight On” slogan into “Cry On.”

The jab came after Leinart tweeted, “Nobody cares … I promise,” shortly after the loss, a comment he said was not directed at the game.

Leinart responded by clarifying his stance, writing that the tweet had “nothing to do with the USC game,” before doubling down with another post the following morning. He noted he had gone to bed early ahead of a 6 a.m. Workout and was amused by the reaction, referencing former teammate LenDale White, who was vocal online after the defeat.

Despite the back-and-forth, Leinart’s legacy at USC remains unchanged. The Heisman Trophy winner led the Trojans to two national championships and played alongside fellow Heisman winner Reggie Bush during one of the program’s most dominant eras.

As for the game, TCU quarterback Ken Seals made his first start and threw for 258 yards, including a 35-yard game-winning touchdown pass to Jeremy Payne in overtime. He added 123 yards from scrimmage and scored twice as both teams finished the season 9-4.

USC, which showed improvement in its second Big Ten season under Lincoln Riley, ended the year on a sour note after falling short of the College Football Playoff.
