Lee Corso has been the face of ESPN’s “College GameDay” for decades, known for his larger-than-life personality and famous catchphrase, “Not so fast, my friend.” But while Corso has lived in the spotlight, his wife Betsy Youngblood has preferred a life away from it.

The private side of a public college football legend

The couple’s marriage goes back nearly seven decades. They first met as students at Florida State, crossing paths while registering for classes, and have been together ever since. They married in 1957, long before Corso became a national television icon.

A family that grew alongside GameDay fame

Corso and Betsy built a big family together, raising four children, who in turn gave them 10 grandchildren and even a great-grandchild. Over the years, ESPN has occasionally highlighted the Corso family in tributes, especially as the longtime analyst prepared to retire from his weekly GameDay role.

Despite the constant travel that came with Corso’s career, he never shied away from commercial flights, often spotted by fans at airports around the country. On his way to Columbus, Ohio, for his final GameDay appearance, even a Southwest Airlines gate agent honored him in front of fellow passengers. The tribute mentioned not only Corso’s impact on college football but also his nearly 70-year marriage to Betsy.

A rare glimpse of gratitude

Corso himself has occasionally pulled back the curtain on his private life to acknowledge his wife. During his ESPYs speech earlier this year, he gave her a heartfelt thank you.

“My wife, Betsy, and I have been married for 69 years, and I just wanted to thank her for loving me through it all,” Corso said.

It was a rare public nod to the woman who has stood by his side through every twist of his coaching and broadcasting career, even as she has chosen to remain mostly in the background.
