Michigan put together its most complete offensive outing of the season last Saturday, overwhelming Central Michigan in a lopsided victory.

While the Chippewas were not expected to present much resistance, the Wolverines’ execution stood out, and freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood delivered the type of performance that fans have been waiting to see.

Underwood showed off the full range of his abilities, combining explosive plays through the air with dynamic runs. The first-year signal-caller piled up a team-high 114 rushing yards and crossed the goal line twice on the ground.

His passing was equally sharp, as he surpassed 200 yards before halftime and found wideout Semaj Morgan for a score.

Calling the game for the Big Ten Network, former Michigan tight end Jake Butt was floored by what he witnessed.

“Already, at 18 years old, he is one of the best pure ‘throwers’ of the football in all college football,” Butt said. “Throw power is a 99/100, but what’s really special is his ability to change the tempo, trajectory, and layer throws over zone defenders and into tight pockets.”

Michigan fans may be celebrating Underwood’s early success, but the road ahead becomes much more demanding. This Saturday, the Wolverines head to Lincoln for their Big Ten opener against an unbeaten Nebraska team.

The Cornhuskers, sitting at 3-0, are looking to secure their first 4-0 start since 2016. They rolled past Houston Christian 59-7 last week, a dominant showing mirrored Michigan’s 60-point explosion against Central Michigan.

The stakes are significant for both sides. Michigan, now 2-1 after a Week 2 loss to Oklahoma, views the trip to Memorial Stadium as a must-win.

Nebraska, on the other hand, seeks to prove it belongs in the conference conversation by ending a four-game skid in the series. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday on CBS and Paramount+.
