Inside Colorado coaching staff: Meet Deion Sanders' coaches for 2025 college football season image

When Deion Sanders took the helm at Colorado, he didn't just bring his unique brand of swagger to Boulder; he brought a complete revolution to the coaching staff. For the 2025 season, Coach Prime has once again assembled a mix of respected veterans and fresh, innovative minds, aiming to build on the foundation laid in his first two years.

Sanders and the Buffaloes are facing a new challenge heading into the 2025 season: navigating the loss of their two biggest stars. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way phenom Travis Hunter are now in the NFL, leaving massive holes to fill on both sides of the ball.

While some familiar faces from previous years have moved on, the incoming group of coaches is expected to elevate the team in key areas, from player development to on-field strategy. Sanders has carefully curated a staff that he believes can guide the Buffaloes to the next level of competition in the Big 12. As the team prepares for a new season and a new conference, the spotlight won't just be on the players; it will be on the architects of the program’s rebuild, whose expertise and vision will be critical to Colorado's success.

The most intriguing question for Colorado entering the 2025 season will be the post-Shedeur Sanders offense, and Coach Prime has brought in yet another offensive mind to help. Byron Leftwich, who was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator since 2019, has departed the NFL to go to Colorado.

While Leftwich does not have a defined title, he is expected to be in charge of both Salter and Lewis' progression at quarterback, per CBS Sports' Shehan Jeyarajah. Colorado kept Pat Shurmur, who was in his first year as offensive coordinator in 2024. Shurmur will continue to be the play-caller for the Buffaloes.

On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Robert Livingston remains at the helm as he enters year two. In 2024, the Buffaloes only gave up 30+ points in three games. More additions include NFL legend Warren Sapp, who was hired as defensive pass rush coordinator for the 2025 season, along with Michael Pollock, who is the special teams coordinator.

Colorado also brought in George Hegamin and Gunnar White as co-assistant offensive line coaches, Tommie Robinson as an assistant running back coach and George Helow as the edge coach.
