The Miami Hurricanes have advanced to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals after defeating Texas A&M 10-3 in the first round. Next up for the Canes is No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. A major reason for Miami’s success this season is the play of quarterback Carson Beck.

Here’s a look at how Beck is still eligible in 2026, as well as his age.

Beck taking a redshirt in 2020 automatically gave him an extra year of eligibility. Additionally, because his college career began during the COVID-19-affected 2020 season, he was granted yet another year of eligibility.

The extension came courtesy of an NCAA blanket COVID waiver. Since athletes participating in the 2020–21 season were at risk of contracting COVID-19, the NCAA ruled that the season would not count against their eligibility. Because Beck played in Georgia’s 2020 season, even during a redshirt year, he remained a redshirt freshman in 2021.
