Heisman winner Robert Griffin III names his top quarterback in college football image

Robert Griffin III knows what greatness at Baylor looks like. The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback has become one of the most influential analysts in college football through his work at Fox Sports and his show Outta Pocket with RGIII. And when it comes to Baylor’s current star quarterback, Griffin did not hold back.

“Let me tell you why Sawyer Robertson is the best quarterback in the country right now,” Griffin said. “He’s first in passing yards in the FBS with 1,713 yards in five games. He’s first in passing touchdowns with 17 touchdown passes in five games. And he’s only got three interceptions. That’s a magnificent touchdown to interception ratio.”

Robertson’s production backs up the hype. The junior transfer has thrown at least three touchdown passes in every game this season. Twice he has surpassed 400 yards through the air. Twice he has thrown four scores. In last week’s win over Oklahoma State, a program in transition after the departure of longtime head coach Mike Gundy, Robertson accounted for five total touchdowns.

Griffin emphasized not just the numbers but the narrative. “This is the guy who transferred from Mississippi State because everybody gave up on him. The guy who lost two back to back quarterback competitions at Baylor because they didn’t think he was good enough. And now he’s the reason Baylor is even in games this year. Their offense is the only thing keeping them alive and Robertson is the centerpiece.”

For a program that has struggled defensively, Robertson’s play has been the difference. His 17 touchdowns against just three interceptions place him in the elite tier of college quarterbacks, and his poise has drawn national attention.

Griffin went further, suggesting Robertson is not just a statistical marvel but a player reshaping his NFL outlook. “You can’t show me a quarterback in all of college football right now that is playing better football than Sawyer Robertson. He is playing himself into becoming a top ten pick.”

Coming from Baylor’s most celebrated quarterback of the modern era, that is no small endorsement. If Robertson continues on this pace, RGIII’s bold statement could become reality by season’s end.
