Arch Manning stats: QB has historic day as Texas beats Arkansas 52-37 image

JUMP TO:

Arch Manning didn’t just have the best game of his collegiate career against Arkansas — he had a historic one.

In a dominant 52-37 victory over the Razorbacks, Manning became the first SEC quarterback since former Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott in 2014 to record a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown in the same game. He shredded the Arkansas defense, tallying a career-high 389 passing yards and six total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing, one receiving) as the Longhorns improved to 8-3.

Just one week after Texas’ disappointing 35-10 blowout loss in Athens on Nov. 15, Manning and coach Steve Sarkisian’s offense were clicking from the jump. The quarterback connected with three different receivers on the opening drive, which ended with a Deandre Moore Jr. Touchdown, and Texas found the end zone on its first three possessions.

Though No. 17 Texas remains on the outside looking in for College Football Playoff contention, the win keeps slight postseason hopes alive for the preseason No. 1 team. Moreover, the college football world is beginning to see Manning emerge as what many envisioned him to be: a superstar.

Next up for Texas is No. 3 undefeated Texas A&M in one of the biggest rivalry games of the season at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. Before eyes shift to the Aggies, it’s worth savoring Manning’s historic day that got Texas back in the win column.

How did Arch Manning play today?

Manning authored a historic performance in the Longhorns' 52-37 win over Arkansas, delivering the breakout game many had been waiting for. The redshirt sophomore quarterback racked up a career-high 389 passing yards with four touchdowns through the air, but the true highlight was his unique trifecta of scores. Manning became the first quarterback in Texas program history to record a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game, a feat not accomplished by an SEC quarterback since Dak Prescott in 2014.

Manning showcased his full athletic arsenal, starting with a long touchdown pass to Deandre Moore Jr., adding a rushing score on a quarterback draw and catching a four-yard touchdown pass from his roommate, Parker Livingstone, on a trick play. His six total touchdowns against the Razorbacks anchored a Texas offense that looked unstoppable, particularly in the first half, when it scored three touchdowns on its first three drives. The outing came just one week after a tough loss to Georgia, injecting life back into the No. 17 Longhorns as they closed out their home schedule.

The performance not only got Texas back into the win column but also offered a glimpse into the quarterback's superstar potential. Manning's showing sets a high bar as the Longhorns now turn their attention to next week's rivalry showdown against the undefeated, third-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, making a final push for College Football Playoff contention.
