JUMP TO:

In December 2022, when Arch Manning officially signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Texas, the Georgia Bulldogs were en route to securing their second consecutive national championship. Fast forward to this Saturday, and the former No. 1 recruit will be leading his No. 10 Texas Longhorns into Sanford Stadium for arguably the biggest matchup of the entire college football season.

Manning and Texas are white-hot, but they now face their most significant challenge yet in the sport's most hostile environment. The Longhorns have aggressively rattled off four straight wins— including statement victories over two top-10 opponents —to climb into the top-10 of the College Football Playoff rankings. All of that hard-earned momentum crashes head-on into the highly-ranked No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs between the hedges this weekend.

The preseason Heisman favorite and preseason No. 1 team started slow, but Texas now looks every bit like a national championship contender. Manning’s recent performance is the engine: in the past two games, he has recorded his two highest passing yard totals (346 and 328) while tossing seven combined touchdowns against only one interception.

Now comes the supreme test of Manning's collegiate career. He must face a tenacious Georgia team in Sanford Stadium — a place the Bulldogs have only lost once since 2019. Kirby Smart's 8-1 team, ranked No. 5 in the country, has proven their championship mettle by relying on incredible resiliency; they trailed in the second half against No. 15 Tennessee, No. 6 Ole Miss, Florida, and Auburn and clawed their way back to victory every single time.

This is the moment of truth: a heavyweight showdown that will either cement Manning and Texas as undeniable national contenders or send their CFP aspirations to a boiling point.

Follow along for all the highlights as Manning takes on his biggest challenge yet.

On 1st & goal, Manning connects with Wingo on a slant in the end zone, and the Longhorns score their first touchdown of the night.

It's Manning's first touchdown tonight and Wingo's sixth on the season. The Longhorns now trail 14-10.

9:57 p.m.:  Though Manning's pass is incomplete on 3rd & 13, a pass interference gives Texas a big chance in the red zone. It's the first Georgia penalty of the night.

The Longhorns offense has a 1st & goal from the eight yard line.

9:51 p.m.:  On 3rd & 6, Manning layers a throw to Wingo, who reels it down near the left sideline. Texas is in the red zone with just over six minutes remaining.

9:49 p.m.:  The Longhorns' defense is single-handedly keeping Texas in this.

Here, star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. Picks off Stockton, setting Texas up in Georgia territory.

The Longhorns still trail by 11.

9:44 p.m.:  Though Texas got two first downs, it is unable to cut into the Georgia lead.

On 3rd & 14 — which came a play after a critical holding penalty — Manning gets swarmed on a designed quarterback draw. Texas punts again and have not scored since the opening drive.

9:40 p.m.:  Facing a 3rd & 13, Manning finds Wingo on the left side on a curl. Texas gets a first down to keep the drive going.

The next play, the quarterback fakes a screen to Wingo, but instead hits Moore Jr. On a wheel. This one goes for 17 yards, and Texas is by midfield.

9:37 p.m.:  The Texas defense has been great since the two Georgia scores, forcing a three-and-out to start the second half.

The Bulldogs have punted four straight times, and now Manning and Texas get the ball at the 20.

9:35 p.m.:  The second half is underway, with Manning and Texas trailing by 11.

Georgia gets the ball first with a chance to extend the lead.

Manning, struggling Texas trail 14-3 at half

9:14 p.m.:  To sum up the first half, Manning gets sacked on first down. The Longhorns choose to let the clock run to halftime and trail 14-3.

The offense has struggled all night, whether crucial drops or bad penalties. Now, against a notoriously good second half team in Georgia, Texas faces a 14-3 deficit.

9:10 p.m.:  The Longhorns defense gets another stop after a few first downs by Gunner Stockton and co., and Texas will have a chance to score before the half.

Texas might need something here with 34 seconds remaining. Georgia gets the ball for the second half.

9:00 p.m.:  On 3rd & 7, Manning tries lofting one to Moore Jr., who was on a crossing route. But, the quarterback overthrows it, forcing Texas to punt once again.

The Longhorns offense and Manning have been drawn back from critical mistakes.

8:58 p.m.:  The Texas defense is keeping the Longhorns in this game.

Manning has thrown an interception in four out of five road games this season.

8:51 p.m.:  Manning and Wingo get the Texas drive going, connecting for 15 yards on the first play of the drive.

The next play, while Manning hit Parker Livingstone for a first down, a holding penalty draws the Texas offense back.

The Longhorns have six penalties tonight, including one on a 58-yard kickoff return by Ryan Niblett, which would have set up Texas in Georgia territory.

8:46 p.m.:  The Texas defense gets its first stop of the night, with tacklers getting to Cash Jones on 3rd & 11 before he got to the sticks.

Manning and the Longhorns offense takes back over with remaining, looking to cut into the Georgia deficit.

8:39 p.m.:  Though Texas had the big play, the offense stalls out on the next three plays.

Manning threw some catchable balls, but the Longhorns receivers had drops on all three downs; first it was Wingo on a deep shot, then Jack Endries on a curl, followed with Moore Jr. On a drag.

They have four tonight. Texas has to punt for the second straight drive, trailing 14-3.

8:37 p.m.:  Backed up on the four-yard line, Manning keeps his cool in the end zone and finds a wide open Emmett Mosley V over the middle of the field. Mosley V takes it for 40 yards, the longest play of the game for the Texas offense.

Mosley V, the Stanford transfer, has three touchdowns in the past two games.

8:31 p.m.:  Georgia has two touchdowns on two drives. Manning and Texas now trail 14-3 in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs have controlled the game so far, and the Texas offense desperately needs a score.

8:09 p.m.:  Georgia finds the end zone on drive one. Gunner Stockton hits Noah Thomas, and the Bulldogs take a 7-3 lead.

Manning will take the field trailing for the first time since Oct. 25 against Mississippi State.

7:57 p.m.:  Texas got into the red zone after a few runs, but on 3rd & 8 the Longhorns can't convert.

Manning hit Wingo on a drag route, but the receiver couldn't reel in the ball. He had some space and could have gotten a first down.

Still, the Longhorns strike first after a 13-play drive. Mason Shipley nails a 33-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

7:54 p.m.:  Texas opts to go for it on 4th & 1 in Georgia territory, and Manning hands it off to C.J. Baxter, who takes it for a first down.

The Longhorns backfield was finally healthy against Vanderbilt, with both Tre Wisner and Baxter getting into the end zone. Tonight, both have to play a role to defeat Georgia.

7:51 p.m.:  On the first play against Vanderbilt, Ryan Wingo took a Manning screen pass for a touchdown. This time, though, the Georgia defense swallows up No. 1.
