Alabama vs. Georgia final score, result: Bulldogs claim SEC title as Kirby Smart's defense shines image

This year's SEC title game promised to be an exciting watch—until it wasn’t.

No. 3 Georgia and No. 9 Alabama had met once before, with the Crimson Tide leaving Sanford Stadium as 24-21 victors on Sept. 27. Their latest rematch, however, brought a far harsher outcome.

The Bulldogs dominated, winning 28-7 on Saturday evening. Georgia’s defense resembled the Bulldogs of old, relentlessly pressuring Heisman hopeful Ty Simpson. The Tide standout had shined in September’s matchup, but that wasn’t the case this time.

Simpson struggled, completing 19 of 39 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown, and one interception—by far his worst showing this season. That performance could jeopardize Alabama’s shot at the College Football Playoff.

Gunner Stockton, Georgia’s quarterback, was efficient under center, completing 20 of 26 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Coupled with Georgia’s punishing defense, it made for a dominant day for Kirby Smart’s team. The Bulldogs will start the CFP with a bye week—and they earned it.

4:19 p.m.:  The Crimson Tide flattened the likes of Gunnar Stockton after Georgia drove itself down the field with a chunk play. Alabama will get the ball back after forcing a Bulldogs punt.
