The Michigan Wolverines shocked the college football world on Wednesday with the firing of head coach Sherrone Moore.
In a statement, Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel stated that Moore was fired due to having an inappropriate relationship with a team staff member.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member."
Who is Michigan's head coach after Moore's firing?
After firing Moore, Michigan quickly moved to appoint an interim. The school announced that Associate head coach Biff Poggi is taking over as the interim head coach.
"Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.”
Poggi rejoined Michigan's coaching staff in 2025 after spending two seasons as Charlotte's head coach in 2023 and 2024. The 65-year-old tallied a 6-16 record with the 49ers before being fired in November 2024.
Now back in Ann Arbor, Poggi will be the head coach for Michigan's bowl game versus the Texas Longhorns.
