Sherrone Moore's contract, explained: Full details of Michigan coach's salary contains expensive buyout image

Many have a question whether Michigan would move on from Sherrone Moore after some questionable decisions in Saturday's loss to Oklahoma.

While one game won't be the reason Moore gets fired, and perhaps last year's season will be the major factor, it's something that Michigan fans have been discussing.

Whenever this program doesn't perform at the level it is supposed to, fans will ask questions. Michigan is expected to compete for a national title every season, no matter who the head coach is.

There are some problems with Moore being fired, mainly due to his buyout.

Despite that, with all the money Michigan has and its ability to not only pay players but also make insane money from the football program, it shouldn't be much of an issue if it decides to go that route.

Sherrone Moore's Buyout Clauses

According to ESPN, last year, Moore had a $5 million buyout that would be decreased by $1 million each year. If Moore coaches the remainder of the season and Michigan decides to part ways, it’d cost them about $3 million.

“Moore was also in line to receive $3.5 million in bonuses, including $500,000 for winning a conference championship and $1 million for winning the national championship. His buyout was slated to begin at $5 million and decrease by $1 million each year, down to $1 million in the final year of the contract,” Jake Trotter wrote.

A $3 million decision for Michigan if the athletic department doesn't believe that Moore is the answer would be nothing for a school of the University of Michigan's size.

However, it might be a bit premature to say that Moore doesn't deserve to have a job.

He was hired for a reason, so Michigan should give him some time to figure things out.
