The lead up to Saturday’s 'The Game' showdown added a bit of playful spark this week when former NFL coach Jon Gruden delivered unwelcome news to Barstool Sports founder and Michigan alum Dave Portnoy.
In a lighthearted social media clip, Portnoy pressed Gruden and Greg Olsen for a prediction in the rivalry matchup. Michigan has won four straight in the series, flipping the longtime script since its breakthrough win in 2021.
Gruden acknowledged the environment at Michigan Stadium and hinted he might lean toward the Wolverines until Portnoy’s presence led him in another direction.

Gruden picked Ohio State, clearly aiming for a reaction from the outspoken Michigan fan. The tease comes as the matchup again carries major postseason stakes.
The No. 1 Buckeyes enter 11-0 behind quarterback Julian Sayin, who has thrown for 2,832 yards with 27 touchdowns and four interceptions. Ohio State pairs its efficient offense with the nation’s top-ranked defense in both yards and points allowed.
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood’s 2,166 passing yards and a ground game led by Jordan Marshall, powering one of the country’s top rushing attacks at 223.5 yards per game.
Kickoff is set for Saturday at Noon ET on FOX.
