Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday he is not assisting the university with its ongoing coaching search, saying his full attention remains on his current job with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Harbaugh, who led Michigan for nine seasons before leaving for the NFL in January 2024, addressed the situation during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.
Michigan is searching for a new head coach after Sherrone Moore was fired last week following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Harbaugh added he has remained in contact with Moore through text messages and last spoke with him earlier this month.

Harbaugh said he has not been involved in Michigan’s coaching search, citing his responsibilities with the Chargers, who play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
“I love my alma mater, I love Michigan, but I love the Chargers, too,” Harbaugh said. “I’d be doing a disservice if I wasn’t putting all my focus on this game.”

Moore joined Harbaugh’s staff in 2018 and was elevated to offensive coordinator during Michigan’s undefeated national championship season in 2023, serving as acting head coach during Harbaugh’s suspension that year.
Harbaugh previously endorsed Moore’s hiring in 2024, calling him “not a better man to coach the team.”
