When the Dallas Cowboys shipped out Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, they downgraded their pass rush but upgraded their run defense with the addition of former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

While the addition of Clark has been solid, it's left former first-round pick out of Michigan, Mazi Smith, with little playing time. Through the first two games of the 2025 season, Smith has been a healthy scratch.

Instead of wasting away on the Cowboys' bench, Dallas should find a trade partner to recoup some value on their former Michigan Wolverine, and there are a couple of teams out there who could use some defensive line depth.

Cowboys Trade Idea Ships Mazi Smith to the Colts

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently wrote a piece regarding 10 players who could or should be moved across the NFL. Smith was listed as a potential candidate.

"A 2023 first-round pick out of Michigan, Smith has appeared in 34 games and played 830 defensive snaps but recorded just 54 tackles and two sacks over his first two seasons. He's been a healthy scratch in each of the Dallas Cowboys' first two games this year," wrote Knox.

"However, Smith is a 6'3", 337-pound defender, and size can't be coached. He's also just 24 years old and has two years remaining on his rookie contract. Teams looking for a rotational run-stopper or even a project to develop for the future should be willing to take a flier on him."

Among the teams listed as a suitor for the former Michigan standout, the Indianapolis Colts were suggested to send out a 2026 sixth-round pick for the former first-rounder's services.

After a surprising 2-0 start to the season, the Colts should look to be aggressive to maintain their strong start. General manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen's jobs may depend on the outcome of the season.

Considering the age of the Colts' interior defensive linemen, DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart, both age 31, Indianapolis could use some younger depth in the trenches.
