Michael Irvin jumps into transfer portal frenzy, recruits Deion Sanders' former five-star to Miami image

Colorado Buffaloes offensive tackle Jordan Seaton delivered devastating news when he announced he would be entering the transfer portal. Four days before the window closes wasn't the best time. The one player Colorado could not afford to lose has in fact made plans to leave.

The way it all went down is rubbing fans and some media the wrong way. As highlighted in the last few days on X and more recently by college football analyst Josh Pate.

Seaton’s announcement included a video produced by Colorado’s production team under different expectations. Using CU video's staff and resources to make one with the understanding the it was announcing Seaton's return to Colorado in 2026 is a special kind of boldness.

The timing is also curious. The portal is open for exactly 14 days. Seaton announced he was entering the portal on Day 9.

The Playmaker recruits Prime’s biggest loss

On Tuesday night, the biggest Miami Hurricanes celebrity fan and former player, Michael Irvin, took to Twitter to lobby for Seaton. Irvin’s wording is interesting as he references and tags Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Which only adds to the speculation behind this situation. “If you’re going to leave my boy…”

On Wednesday, Seaton responded by stating, “Meet me up there” and tagged Irvin in his response. The geography mistake not withstanding (meeting him in Miami after leaving Boulder is a ‘down’ situation, not in football program but in both geography and elevation), Seaton’s approach to this is not making it better.

Seaton’s approach to his departure is aging like the Lebron James “Decision.” Seaton will likely not be vilified like James was, but the execution comes from a similar place. The questions now become, is Miami the frontrunner to secure Seaton? And how will this be for the long-standing relationship between Irvin and Sanders?

The prevailing logic seems to be the timing is late because a team poached him with a better NIL package. If that ends up being the case, and Irvin is in any way instrumental in taking Seaton from Colorado, how might that change the relationship? Also, was Sanders tagged because he gave his blessing? In either case, it looks bad. From almost any angle.
