CFP National Championship parking prices are so high, getting towed could cost less image

There’s a memorable moment in the 2000 comedy "Meet the Parents" where Robert De Niro rushes to the airport, desperately trying to prevent Ben Stiller from leaving town. A police officer shouts that he can’t leave his car unattended. De Niro hardly slows down, glances back, and utters two words that have aged remarkably well.

"Tow it."

That same vibe might be settling in for fans heading to the College Football Playoff Championship at Hard Rock Stadium next Monday night. Whether you'll be rooting for the Miami Hurricanes or Indiana Hoosiers, it doesn't matter because these prices are insane.

According to Andy Slater from Fox Sports South Florida, the least expensive parking on stadium grounds is currently priced at $747. That’s not a mistake either.

If you're up for a hike, there are some parking lots beyond the stadium's edge that will set you back around $300 to park your car.

And that’s where the math starts to get tricky. According to the posted rates from Miami-Dade County, a police-directed tow for a standard vehicle starts at around $153. If you add another day of storage, you’ll still be under $250. Even after taking an Uber or Lyft back to your hotel, you might still come out ahead compared to legally parking anywhere near the stadium.

Now we’re not suggesting you abandon your car on Don Shula Drive or Dan Marino Boulevard, we’re merely recognizing that when parking costs start to resemble rent money, the “tow it” option begins to look less reckless and more like a smart financial decision. This, of course, is all part of attempting to do the CFP National Championship on a budget.

One Bonus: You won’t have to stress about driving home. Sit back and enjoy the game. Maybe even indulge in that extra drink or two. Your car will be safe in the Miami police auto pound lot, which somehow feels like the most responsible parking plan available.
