The coaching carousel has taken another unexpected turn. LSU has emerged once again as a serious contender for the Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

While much of the recent buzz has tied Kiffin to Florida, a report from The Advocate on Monday added new developments to the search, indicating that Kiffin and his family flew into Baton Rouge for a private visit arranged by LSU officials.

The trip signals that LSU’s pursuit remains active despite assumptions that the Tigers had fallen behind Florida in the race. It also raises questions about how appealing the LSU job remains amid its ongoing turmoil.

LSU fired Brian Kelly in a chaotic public dispute that included Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry sidelining athletic director Scott Woodward and inserting himself into the hiring process. The school is still battling Kelly over a $54 million buyout, which now involves litigation.

Early speculation suggests the ongoing feud in Baton Rouge could dampen Kiffin’s interest. Yet, LSU continues making an aggressive push.

Newly-promoted athletic director Verge Ausberry has publicly set sky-high expectations, declaring that the Tigers “have to be in the Playoff every year,” a statement that presents pressure towards the next coach.

With both LSU and Florida maintaining traction, Kiffin’s next move will be one of the defining decisions of the coaching cycle.
