LSU is reportedly preparing to present Lane Kiffin with a record-setting contract offer as the Tigers intensify their pursuit of the Ole Miss head coach, according to a report Thursday from WJOX Radio.
Wilson Alexander of The Advocate told “McElroy and Cubelic” that LSU is assembling “a very large financial package” designed to make Kiffin one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.
“I think that they would make him… maybe over $13 million [annually], something like that,” Alexander said. Previous reports say that LSU is prepared to offer a deal that could make Kiffin the single highest-paid coach in the sport.

Georgia’s Kirby Smart currently leads the nation at $13.2 million per year, according to USA TODAY Sports. But LSU’s recent legal battle with former coach Brian Kelly being fired and the dispute over a $54 million buyout may influence the structure of any future deal. Alexander added LSU officials are considering a shorter-term contract to limit buyout exposure should the deal fall through the cracks.
Ole Miss has reportedly given Kiffin a deadline to declare his intentions before the Nov. 28 Egg Bowl with Mississippi State, raising the possibility he may not coach the Rebels in the College Football Playoff.
Kiffin has since denied any ultimatum exists, but tensions remain high as one of the sport’s biggest coaching pursuits nears a decision point from the longtime coach.
