Four-star edge rusher out of Lake Nona Florida, DeAnthony Lafayette is keeping his options open in the wake of LSU firing Brian Kelly. Lafayette has been committed to LSU since July. The No. 5 edge rusher in the state of Florida made the tough decision to pick the Tigers over second place option the Oklahoma Sooners.
In his junior season, Lafayette received offer letters from LSU, Oklahoma, Boston College, Miami, and Florida. After a junior season that included 73 tackles, 40 quarterback hurries, and almost 18 sacks, LSU decided to ramp up their recruitment of the young Edge.
During a multi-day visit to Death Valley Lafayette took in the sights and sounds the campus had to offer. After spending some time mulling over his various options, he decided to commit to LSU. “I’m going to LSU!” Lafayette told Rivals. “Coach (Kevin) Peoples showed love since they offered me and his coaching style is a style I would love to be coached by.

According to Sports Illustrated the visit and exposure to the campus and the surrounding community, Lafayette believed he found something uncommon. “LSU football is something you can’t find anywhere else”, Lafayette said. “It was just the feeling on the official visits,” he told Rivals. “LSU felt more like home for me. Baton Rouge — from the energy, the people, and the love for LSU football — hit different. From the moment I stepped on campus, it felt like home.”
Fast forward to October of this year and the situation has experienced significant change. Last month LSU decided to relieve head coach Brian Kelly of his coaching duties providing a sense of immediate uncertainty. The four-star prospect will take a visit with the Miami Hurricanes who have intensified their pursuit of Lafayette according to reports from 247 Sports.
With the early signing period about a month away, teams pursuing Lafayette’s services will need to act quickly. The early signing period falls between December 3rd through the 5th. The regular signing period if he doesn’t sign in December begins on February 4th, 2026.
