Brian Kelly makes first public statement since LSU firing image

Former LSU football coach Brian Kelly broke his silence Thursday, releasing his first public statement since being dismissed from the program on Oct. 26.

Kelly, who went 34-14 in just over three seasons with the Tigers, was fired a day after LSU’s 49-25 loss to Texas A&M, ended the program’s playoff hopes.

“Moving to Baton Rouge four years ago, my family and I were clear. There would be no halfway. We would be all-in for LSU and for Louisiana,” Kelly wrote on social media. “Sometimes the journey does not end the way we hope. But when I think of our time together, I will remember and appreciate what we did accomplish.”

Kelly mentioned his players’ achievements, including Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, who is one a dozen NFL players, and 39 Tigers named to the 2024 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

“The roar of Death Valley when we beat Alabama... I don’t need to tell any of you how special Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium are,” Kelly said. “I am honored to have worn the purple and gold.”

Kelly remains owed a $54 million buyout but has said he’s open to a settlement with LSU.
