Jimmy Rogers has been named the next head football coach at Iowa State, the school announced Friday. He replaced Matt Campbell, who moves on to Penn State.
Rogers guided Washington State to a bowl game in his first season and previously led South Dakota State to the 2023 FCS national championship.
ISU athletic director Jamie Pollard called Rogers “a rising star in college athletics,” citing his Midwest roots and long-standing interest in the Iowa State job. “He immediately impressed me with his interest in Iowa State University,” Pollard said. “He is a proven winner who has demonstrated throughout his career that he will fit our culture.”
Rogers arrives in Ames on a six-year contract after posting a 6-6 record in his lone season at Washington State. He became just the fourth coach in program history to reach a bowl game in his first season, with three losses coming by four points or fewer to teams ranked in the current College Football Playoff rankings.
Overall, Rogers owns a 33-9 record as a head coach, including a dominant 27-3 mark in two seasons at South Dakota State. He led the Jackrabbits to the 2023 national title and the 2024 FCS semifinals, continuing a run of elite defensive play and multiple All-America selections.
“My family and I are excited to be joining the Iowa State University community,” Rogers said. “This University has everything needed to compete at the highest level. I am honored to lead the Cyclones and cannot wait to get started.”
