Indiana University was long considered a basketball school for sports, but head coach Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers on the map in the football world.
If you ask school officials, though, they'd likely tell you that IU has long been on the national map of prominent universities. The Hoosiers boast one of the largest student bodies in the country. Indiana doesn't have the state size of Florida or California, but the University has taken a huge step forward to have one of the biggest student bodies in the nation. This goes hand-in-hand with the Hoosiers ever-growing alumni base, which has now become one of the largest in the country.
Here is more on whether or not Indiana has the largest living alumni base.

Indiana alumni base 2025
Indiana announced on Oct. 14, 2025 that it is now the school with the largest living alumni base with more than 805,000 alumni living around the world. More than half (417,000) reside in Indiana, per the release.
University President Pamela Whitten added a statement in the release. She said, "As the nation’s largest alumni community, IU graduates are leaving a lasting impact that’s as deep as it is wide. Their success exemplifies our commitment to putting students first. Whether they’re delivering front-line care, leading new industries, or serving communities across our state and nation, our graduates are doing what IU alumni do best: changing the world for the better."
Indiana fan attendance in College Football Playoff
There is not an exact number for the amount of Indiana fans that have attended College Football Playoff games this season, but the Hoosier faithful have travelled well.
The Rose Bowl saw 90,268 fans and the crowd was said to be largely favoring Indiana. The Peach Bowl semifinal game against Oregon had 75,604 fans in attendance, and again the thought is that it largely favored Indiana.
It's at least a 90-10 split in terms of crowd. So, so many Indiana fans.
