The Indiana Hoosiers won't get caught looking ahead too much.
But with the timing of the transfer portal, they will have to at least pay attention to the task of finding their quarterback of the future.
Fernando Mendoza, the uber-successful transfer from Cal who won the Heisman Trophy and has IU as the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, is expected to head to the NFL and be a top-five draft pick.
That means the Hoosiers will need a new quarterback next year.
Some will think it is as simple as plugging in Fernando's younger brother, Alberto, who is already on the Hoosiers roster.
But it's safe to expect Curt Cignetti to pursue a transfer QB, too, likely one with a lot of college experience who hopes to replicate what Fernando Mendoza did this season.

The name suggested by The Athletic's Manny Navarro? Josh Hoover.
Hoover has been a star at TCU.
"Curt Cignetti has some solid options in the portal to replace Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza," Navarro writes. "Hoover, who is 19-12 as a starter, has thrown for more yards (9,629) and touchdowns (71) than any other Division I QB with remaining eligibility."
Cignetti has proven what he can do with a program, and with quarterbacks.
Many available QBs would surely love to try and become the next big name in this system.
If Indiana can land Hoover, it'd likely be a win for everyone involved.
