Fernando Mendoza is from Miami, and he just won the college football national championship playing in Miami... Against Miami.
Mendoza, of course, is the Indiana Hoosiers' Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. He just beat the Hurricanes 27-21 in the natty on Monday night.
And man oh man, this story could've been difference.
He played at Columbus High School, the alma mater of Miami head coach Mario Cristobal.
When Mendoza was being recruited, though, it was Manny Diaz at the helm of the Hurricanes.
Turns out they didn't even want Mendoza as a walk-on.
"I got declined to walk-on at the University of Miami. Full circle moment here playing in Miami," Mendoza told ESPN's Holly Rowe after winning the national title.

Miami was reportedly interested in Mendoza when he chose to transfer away from Cal, but he chose Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers.
The rest is history.
A 16-0 season.
The Heisman Trophy.
Capped off with an epic fourth-and-5 touchdown run that IU fans will never forget.
Maybe there's an alternate universe where Mendoza is a Miami Hurricane.
But this universe is way more fun.
