Speaking with the media on behalf of SEC Network and ESPN, Tim Tebow offered advice to Florida sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway as the Gators gear up for Texas.
“It would just be to encourage him on remembering his love for the game, not looking at the circumstances, not thinking about the pressure,” Tebow said. “There is a lot of weight when you’re a quarterback here. There’s a lot of pressure. It’s easy to hear the noise from the outside. At our best times here, we were playing free and fast. At my worst times, it was trying to carry the weight too much.”
For Tebow, Lagway’s success will come down to attacking downfield and gaining confidence early. “When he has played his best, it’s because we’ve been able to watch him throw a really good deep ball, play with an aggressiveness, a confidence,” he explained. “I don’t know any athlete that’s played well that hasn’t played with a confidence that’s almost on the verge of arrogance.”

Tebow also emphasized the importance of getting Lagway in rhythm quickly. “Every player has something that gets them going. It’s to know your players and find a way to get them going so they can believe and have that passion. I’m excited to see what happens early in the game because I think that’ll dictate a lot.”
Ultimately, Tebow believes the Gators must tailor the scheme to Lagway’s strengths. “You play to your player strengths. If you don’t, your chance of being your best isn’t even there,” he said. “For DJ, it’s pushing the ball down the field and play action. But that only works when you stay out of third-and-long.”
