Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes came into the 2025 season with several questions that needed to be answered. This was the first time without Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in Coach Prime tenure, which was initially said to create a better team for the Buffaloes overall. However, nine games into the season and that's not the case.
For the second straight Big 12 game, Sanders and the Buffs got outworked and outscored. In fact, the 52-17 loss to Arizona looked worse than last week's 53-7 defeat at the hands of Utah in Salt Lake City. On paper, there were a few more highlights for Julian Lewis, who got his first career touchdown. That was about it for Colorado, who felt the 'Prime Effect' hype exit Folsom Field at a rapid pace.
The student section was out right before halftime and didn't return. This was the worst defeat for CU under Sanders and tops what Oregon did at Autzen in 2023. Never before last week did the Buffaloes give up over 50 points and now they've done so in consecutive games. This is a 105-24 margin during that time as well.
Leadership matters now more than ever, especially with the college football coaching carousel already starting to ramp up. Expect Sanders to take responsibility for the losses and move on. With three games left in the regular season, Colorado will have to win out to become bowl eligible. If they drop all three, the 3-9 record will be the worst season in the Coach Prime era at any stop.
Time will tell if the Buffaloes will make any stark adjustments in the coming weeks.
