The play didn’t look like it was supposed to work. Trevor Lawrence had stumbled to the turf, the crowd gasping, before somehow regaining his footing and sprinting into the end zone for the game-winner.
“In the middle of the play I was just running my route,” said Travis Hunter. “I looked back, I saw him on the ground, so I looked away, then I looked back again and he was getting up and scoring. I was just confused. I didn’t know if he got touched or not. I [saw] a touchdown, so I was just happy and excited.”
Hunter, Jacksonville’s electrifying two-way star, once again left fingerprints all over Monday night’s 31–28 win over Kansas City. He caught three passes for 64 yards, including a contested 44-yard grab between two defenders, and added two tackles on defense. “We just work hard on that play in practice,” he said. “I did that route probably like 10, 13 extra times after practice just to get the timing right.

Even when the Jaguars trailed 14–0, Hunter said the sideline stayed composed. “Just go out there and get back into it, get back on track with the 30 minutes we’ve got left.”
Momentum flipped when linebacker Devin Lloyd jumped a route for a pick-six. “It did a lot,” Hunter said. “Devin’s been doing it each and every week…once he broke the running back’s tackle, I knew.
And through it all, Hunter credited his quarterback’s resilience. “Trevor’s just been a dog. No matter the adversity, he just kept going next play, next-play mindset and brought the offense with him.”
The Jaguars are 4-1. and Hunter says they’re still not satisfied. “We’re trying to be perfect,” he said. “We’ve got to keep striving for that.”
